  • What exactly is a virtual tour and how is it different from regular photos or a video?

A virtual tour is an interactive, digital representation of a real-world space that lets a viewer move through the environment, examine layout, explore angles and get a sense of “being there” rather than just seeing static photos or watching a linear video.

For example, with a Matterport 3D tour you can pan around a room, move from one room to another, look up/down, zoom in, and view the entire floor layout.

    In contrast:

    • A photo shows one angle, one moment.
    • A video shows a fixed path the creator decided.
    • A virtual tour gives the viewer control: they decide what to look at, where to “walk”, and how to explore.

So the bottom line: if you want to give your audience a stronger immersive experience, better spatial understanding and longer engagement, a virtual tour delivers far more than static visuals.

  • Why should my business invest in a virtual tour? What are the benefits?

There are a number of clear benefits when you add a quality virtual tour to your website or marketing:

Stronger engagement & longer dwell time: Viewers stay longer online exploring your space, which signals quality and can reduce bounce-rates.

Better decision-making for prospects: People can see the layout and get a realistic feel for your space without needing a physical visit – saving you time in pre-qualifying or show-around visits.

Competitive differentiation: If your competitors are using only photos or video, offering a virtual interactive experience helps you stand out.

Improved web/SEO performance: Embedding a tour can improve user metrics (time on site, click-throughs), help your local search visibility, and increase social shares and linking.

Versatile marketing asset: It can be embedded on your website, shared in social media, emailed to leads, used in printed materials (via QR links) or added to listing platforms.

In short: yes, it’s an investment – but one that often pays off in better lead quality, fewer wasted visits, and stronger online presence.

  • How much does it cost, and what factors determine the price?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all price because each project has different variables. That said, typical cost drivers include:

Size of the space (square footage, number of rooms, connectivity across floors).

Complexity (number of floor levels, hard-to-reach zones, custom configurations).

Features added (branding/custom hot-spots, measurement tools, floor-plans, drone or external aerial views).

Turn-around or rush scheduling may increase cost.

Hosting/subscription costs: due to the specialist nature of the models and tours they are stored on specialist servers and require annual hosting.

As a rough ball-park: small spaces may start from a modest baseline of £400 upwards, while large/multi-floor or high-feature tours will cost more.

  • What’s involved in the process and how long does it take from shoot to delivery?

Here’s the typical process we follow at Your Virtual Tour, and the time-frames involved:

Pre-shoot planning & preparation – We’ll work with you to schedule a time, decide which spaces to scan, plan the route and discuss the capture.

On-site capture – Using our specialist 3D-scanning cameras, we capture multiple scan positions across the space. This may take from a couple of hours for a small space up to a full day or more for a large property.

Post-processing – The scans are uploaded to the platform, stitched together, edited, floor plans generated, and interactive features added.

Review and approval – We’ll send you a preview link; you can review and request minor tweaks.

Delivery & embedding – We provide the final version, typically with embed code or direct link, ready for your website and other uses.

Typical delivery time: For a standard space we aim for within a few days to two weeks (depending of size of tour) from the shoot date.

  • What do I need to do to prepare my space for the shoot?

Preparation helps ensure your virtual tour looks its best (and saves time/money). Here are the key steps:

Clean and declutter: Remove obvious clutter, rubbish bins, personal items, paperwork. The camera sees everything!

Fix minor maintenance or lighting issues: Replace broken bulbs, fix curtains/blinds, tidy exterior entryway. Some imperfections become very visible in a 3D scan.

Staging: Arrange furniture, straighten chairs, add small props/brochures so the space feels welcoming.

Lighting: Turn on all interior lights, open curtains/blinds to allow natural light where appropriate. Good lighting = better quality.

Remove people/pets/moving objects: During the scan workspace should ideally be empty/uninterrupted to avoid blur or weird artifacts.

Unlock doors or allow open access: So we can capture connected areas smoothly.

Remove or blur sensitive info: We do blur images of people where needed  but Certificates, documents, computer screens showing confidential data should be removed prior to scanning.

  • Can I embed the virtual tour on my website?

Absolutely. We supply you with an embed code  which you simply paste into your website page, just like embedding a YouTube video. After that, your visitors can browse the tour directly on your site.

We also assist you with optional sharing on social media, email campaigns, listing platforms - embedding is simple and user-friendly. No special software is required for the viewer.

  • What devices or browsers can people use to view the tour?

Your virtual tour will work across a wide range of devices and browsers:

    • Desktop computers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari)
    • Tablets
    • Smartphones
    • No special app is typically needed — it runs in a web browser.
  • Can the tour be updated later if I make changes to my space?

Yes – we can absolutely update the tour if your space undergoes changes (for example, renovation, new layout, new flooring). We can either re-scan the updated areas or create an entirely new version, depending on the extent of the changes.

We will work with you to evaluate costs and timing for the update, and ensure the tour continues to reflect your current space accurately.

  • What happens about the hosting?

    Here’s how it works:

We deliver the final virtual tour embed link/code which you can use on your website, email, etc.

Due to the specialist nature of the 3D models and tours, they are hosted on specialist servers and require a small  annual hosting/subscription fee to maintain the tour online and for it to be accessible.

This can be a simple monthly Direct Debit or an annual one off payment.
